Music
The ATO specializes generally in sounds of the Golden Era of tango music from the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s and particularly with those that have become popular at North American Milongas. Our arrangements are based on recordings from great Band Leaders like DiSarli, Biagi, and d’Arienzo. We are constantly on the lookout for old, new, and interesting arrangements. If you have some old scores hanging out in a suitcase that your grandparents brought with them from Argentina, please send us an email!
Here are a few sample recordings from one of our shows at the White Horse in Black Mountain:
Please enjoy these live recordings from our September 11th, 2011 show (thanks, Lew).
One of the things that distinguishes us is our cortinas. Cortinas are short pieces of music in between Tandas (a group of three songs) that allow the dancers to switch partners if they so desire. Many of ours are composed specifically for the ATO. Please enjoy the following cortinas, and if you are a tango DJ, feel free to add them to your set list.
